ALL fans love a promotion chase and if Davis Keillor-Dunn’s comments on this year’s League Two title battle are anything to go by, the players are pumped up for it too.

“It’s entertaining, exciting and I’m really enjoying it,” said the Mansfield Town top scorer when asked for his thoughts on the end-of-season run-in.

Keillor Dunn’s 18 goals and eight assists have put The Stags in pole position with most teams at the top now having less than 10 games left to play in what has been a thrill-a-minute campaign.

The former Wrexham attacking midfielder, who played six games under ex-Reds’ boss Dean Keates at The Racecourse in 2020, has had a field day at Field Mill since joining them 14 months ago.

“I love it here,” said Sunderland-born Keillor-Dunn.” It’s a club with great ambition and a team that wants to play free-flowing football and that’s the way I want to play football.

“We like to create lots of chances and I’m more than happy with my return of 18 goals and eight assists this season.”

Mansfield are managed by Nigel Clough, the son of football’s legendary boss Brian, and Keillor-Dunn described the Cloughs as being ‘massive’ in Nottingham, where he now lives.

“I’ve been lucky with my last two clubs to have had two great managers sign me - Jimmy Floyd-Hasselbaink at Burton and now Nigel Clough,” added Keillor-Dunn.

“Burton were struggling to stay up when I left but Mansfield love to attack. That was why I was brought and I have to say it was good decision.

“There was a time when I was leaving Oldham that reports did surface about being linked with Wrexham but I didn’t hear anything from my agent about them.

“And you know how much time I have for Wrexham.

“I loved my time there. The fans, the ground, the big European floodlights.

“The atmosphere was great when I was there so it must be even better now with the crowds they have been getting.

“I’ve got nothing but good words to say about the club. It’s a great set-up there and things have moved on so much since the American owners took over.”

Just 200 Wrexham fans in a crowd of 1,473 crowd saw Keillor Dunn score his one and only Reds goal at Bromley - and times have changed and attendances home and away have increased considerably since then.

“I’ve watched the documentary and really enjoyed it!” added Keillor-Dunn.

“It’s nice to see the fans get repaid with some great times at the club for their continued support!”

Mansfield, who top the table by two points, are the top scorers in the league and face Wrexham at The STōK Cae Ras in front of the television cameras on Good Friday.

“It should be a cracking game and a great atmosphere,” added Keillor-Dunn, who points towards MK Dons as the side who will join Mansfield, Wrexham and Stockport in a fight to finish top.

“That game will be key. The league game at our place ended 0-0 while Wrexham beat us in the FA Cup but we missed a lot of chances in that one.

“I know Wrexham have got Crewe and Stockport in the last two games of the season. They are massive games.”

There will be many twists and turns and it will probably go to the final few games as things are getting tight at the top - and Tuesday’s results proved that.

Mansfield lost at Tranmere; MK Dons went down at Grimsby while Wrexham were held to a goal-less draw at home by Harrogate Town.

So that gives Stockport County, who have two games in hand on Mansfield and Wrexham, the perfect chance to draw level with the leaders if they win at Salford tonight.

Then on Saturday, MK Dons and Crewe clash where Alex Gilbey and Elliott Nevitt will be key players as they aim to reduce the gap on the top three.
