IT’S some run that Deeside Dragons are on at the moment and they’re aiming to keep the momentum going heading into the play-offs.

Ice Sheffield will be the venue for the NIHL Division One North play-offs, which will be held on the weekend of April 6 and 7, but before then the Dragons have two big league games to get through.

Next up on Sunday is a trip to Widnes Wild, with Deeside looking to stretch their winning run to six matches.

Assistant head coach Matt Compton said: “Every year it comes around really quickly. There’s two games left and then it’s into the play-offs.

“We want to keep that momentum going. This weekend will be tough in Widnes. It’s always tough versus them.

“We want to keep that momentum going and keep building.”

In their latest outings, Dragons saw off Whitley Warriors 7-5, 24 hours after a comfortable 6-1 win over Blackburn Hawks in the M56 Cup.

James Shaw, Petr Valusiak, Matt Wainwright and skipper James Parsons were amongst the scorers as Deeside look to now be nearing full strength at a crucial stage.

Andy McKinney (pictured right) is back in action after suffering a broken hand, while Shaw and Chris Jones have also returned to action.

“It adds competition as well,” added Compton. “It’s not a case of if you make a mistake, you don’t play again.

“Like we said on Saturday, every decision we make from now on is for the betterment of the team. We are a team.

“If you’re not in the team one week, you could be back in next week. We told them to stick with it and don’t take it personally.”
