JAMES MCCLEAN is targeting a third successive win against Harrogate Town at The Racecourse and avoiding a yellow card would make it the perfect night!

Saturday's superb 3-1 victory at Morecambe keeps Wrexham third in League Two, three points behind leaders Mansfield Town and on the same tally as second placed Stockport County, and two ahead of MK Dons who sit fourth.

Former Irish international McClean was not booked at The Mazuma Stadium but is still walking a disciplinary tightrope.

He has been shown nine yellow cards in the league this season and players are hit with a two-game ban if they reach 10 bookings after 37 fixtures.

The cut-off point comes after tonight's match so the plan is for McClean to avoid a caution before the reset and help Wrexham pick up another three point haul in the promotion push.

"I have been in the game long enough now to know when to rein it in and when not to rein it in," he said.

"I was annoyed about the yellow card against Accrington because it was avoidable. It was stupid on my behalf but emotion can sometimes get the better of you.

"I have got one game to go and obviously the aim is not to get booked.

"A win and not getting booked, I would take that now!"

Wrexham got off to a slow start against Morecambe who took a fourth minute lead but there was only one team in the contest after McClean equalised before the break, with top scorer Paul Mullin and Steven Fletcher netting in the second half to secure victory.

Having thrashed Accrington 4-0 in the previous game, McClean is pleased the Reds are firing in front of goal at the business end of the season.

"It wasn't the ideal start conceding a goal so early and we struggled to get a foothold in the game but after the equaliser, I thought we were very comfortable and by far the better side," he said.

"In other games, we have been the better side too but we haven't taken our chances, especially Bradford at home, but we have done that in the last two games.

"Seven goals in the last two games is obviously pleasing and it is a good time to find your shooting boots.

"It is always nice for me to get a goal, especially when it helps the team pick up three points."

Wrexham have 10 matches remaining and McClean wants to continue the winning habit during the run-in.

"It is vital to keep putting points on the board at this stage of the season and we did that so that is pleasing," he added.

"Hopefully we can keep this good run of form going.

"Every game is important, Harrogate are next and we will be ready for it.

"We are in the top three with 10 games to go so it is a position you want to be in.

"It is up to us to do the work to make sure we are there at the end of the season."
