AMBER LIGHTFOOT is keen to put Wrexham’s Welsh Cup final appearance on the back-burner as a crucial spell of matches begins in the Adran Premier League.

The Reds saw off The New Saints 1-0 in last week’s semi-final, to book a showpiece final showdown with Cardiff City in early May, but the focus for the next few weeks is on the league.

Steve Dale’s side, guaranteed to top-four spot in their first season back in the top flight, open phase two of the campaign away to Swansea City on Sunday.

Lightfoot told the club’s YouTube channel: “I mean, I hoped (to reach the cup final), but now actually getting there, you know, I’m so excited and all the girls will have the fifth of May in their sights.

“So, we’re all just looking forward to that. But, obviously, our focus now is on phase two.

“So, we’ve got to think about that and then we’ll think about the final at a later date.

“It’s massive, you know. The next six games, none of them are going to be easy.

“They’re going to be tough tests and then topped off with a final against Cardiff at the end of it.

“But, as players, that’s what we want to do. We want to play in the best games, against the best opposition, because, to be honest, I think it pushes this group and, you know, I think we’ll only get better the more we play better opposition.

“So, I know we’re all looking forward to it. So, yeah, bring on phase two now!”

Liv Fuller, gradually making her way back to full fitness after a long-term injury, says the Adran Premier title is still within reach.

After the semi-final win, she said: “It’s exciting and I think it’s something that the club as a whole have been looking forward to do.

“I don’t think at the start of the season anybody would have expected us to do that, but from training with the girls, from listening to (manager) Steve (Dale) and (assistant manager) Josh (Evans) and what their ambitions are for the team, we’re now showing on the pitch why we should be here.

“Why we’ve got into the top-four and, actually, we are going to be fighting for that top spot and fighting for the cup at the end of it.”

Wrexham, who are third in the standings ahead of the closing six league matches of the campaign, haven’t defeated either of the top two sides in action this season.

Cardiff City sit at the top of the pile, five points clear of Swansea City, with Wrexham three points further back.

Leaders Cardiff open phase two of the campaign at home to Aberystwyth Town on Sunday.

In the Adran Premier Plate, The New Saints travel to Cardiff Met and Barry play host to Pontypridd.

Another pivotal weekend is in store in Adran North.

Connah’s Quay Nomads will climb into second position if they gather a three-point haul at Rhyl 1879, while Airbus have a tough test at home to league leaders Llandudno.

The remaining match sees Llanfair United playing host to Bangor.

There’s one match scheduled in the Adran U19s’ North League this evening, with Airbus travelling to The New Saints.
