DEESIDE DRAGONS will spring into March knowing their place in the NIHL Division One North play-offs is assured.

There are four league matches left to play this season, but their spot in the post-season is already assured ahead of this Sunday’s big trip to leaders Billingham Stars.

“We have got into the play-offs, it’s just seeing what position we’re in,” said Dragons’ assistant head coach Matt Compton.

“It’s that tight, it could be any one of those teams we could play. No matter who we get, we should be confident.”

A sweet 17 goals scored made sure it was a fine spell in their last spot of action.

The spell opened with a 13-5 win at Sheffield Scimitars, where a hat-trick from Brodie Jesson led the scoring stakes. Dragons followed this up with a 4-2 home triumph versus Hull Jets.

Next up is the trip north to Billingham and Compton added: “We have got a really good chance to show ourselves that we can beat anybody in this league.”

After this Sunday, Deeside’s only remaining away match will come against Widnes Wild on March 17.

Dragons will have home comforts in the league versus Whitley Warriors (March 10) and Widnes Wild (March 24), while there’s a home M56 Cup tie with Blackburn Hawks scheduled for Saturday, March 9.

It’s a vital portion of the campaign and things are looking positive when it comes to personnel.

“We had a good practice last week and we are looking almost back to full fitness,” added Compton.

“I’m confident we’re getting back to full strength ready for the run-in. I think Karl Bacon (pictured above) is suspended from the last game, but that’s the only one. The competition for places is heating up as well. Not just in games, people have got to put in the effort in practice.”

Other fixtures: Tomorrow: Blackburn Hawks v Widnes Wild. Sunday: Nottingham Lions v Hull Jets; Whitley Warriors v Solihull Barons; Widnes Wild v Blackburn Hawks.
