PAUL MULLIN scored a late penalty as Wrexham came from behind to draw 1-1 against second bottom Forest Green Rovers but it was a missed opportunity at The New Lawn.

Fourth at the start of play, Phil Parkinson's men made the trip to Gloucestershire knowing they would move up to third place with a victory, and be just one point behind leaders Mansfield Town.

But the Reds produced another poor performance when they lacked a cutting edge in the final third and create very few chances all game.

There was a lack of clear cut opportunities as although Wrexham enjoyed a lot of possession, they didn't look like scoring.

However, Mullin despatched his 93rd minute penalty to earn a share of the spoils and Wrexham are now three points off top spot, although they have played a game more than Mansfield and are now on the same number of matches as second placed Stockport and Crewe Alex, who sit third.

Stockport are also three points ahead of Wrexham who are one adrift of Crewe.

Parkinson made three changes from the side that started Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Gillingham.

Aaron Hayden took over from Jordan Tunnicliffe in the centre of defence while captain Luke Young came back into midfield, allowing James McClean to switch back to the left wing-back position, with Jacob Mendy dropping to the substitutes bench.

The other change was in attack where Paul Mullin replaced Jack Marriott.

Wrexham got off to the worst possible start as Rovers took a third minute lead.

Young lost possession and Emmanuel Osadebe went through on goal past the Reds' defence with the striker slotting past Arthur Okonkwo who seemed to be caught out of position.

The Reds responded with Ryan Barnett's effort deflected out for a corner while Young's long range shot drifted wide.

But Wrexham were indebted to Okonkwo for preventing Rovers from going further behind as the goalkeeper pulled off a stunning save to keep out Christian Doidge's header which was heading for the bottom corner following Kyle McAllister's cross.

McAllister fired wide for Rovers while at the other end, Wrexham playmaker Elliot Lee couldn't keep his shot down.

Wrexham were seeing a lot of the ball but found it tough to break down resilient Rovers with the Reds struggling to create chances.

McClean's cross fell for Barnett but he was unable to capitalise at the back post as he scuffed his attempt on goal while Young and Lee combined with the ball falling for Andy Cannon whose weak drive was comfortably saved by goalkeeper Vicente Reyes.

Steven Fletcher's volley went over the bar and it remained 1-0 to Rovers at the break.

Reyes was called into action at the start of the second half with the goalkeeper making a smart save after Lee's cross came off a Rovers defender and Lee's low drive was also kept out.

Parkinson made his first change on the hour mark with Jordan Davies replacing Hayden as Wrexham switched to a back-four, and Ben Tozer soon came on for the injured Eoghan O'Connell after Charlie McCann's effort deflected wide for Rovers.

In a last throw of the dice, Parkinson made a triple substitution with Luke Bolton, Ollie Palmer and Marriott on for Barnett, Fletcher and Young.

Wrexham made a late rally. Bolton pulled the ball back for Marriott who fired into the sidenetting and Davies' header from Lee was comfortably gathered by Reyes.

Palmer's header was comfortably saved but Wrexham were awarded a penalty when Mullin was brought down in added time.

Mullin stepped up and smashed home the 93rd minute equaliser from the penalty spot to earn the Reds a point.
