PHIL PARKINSON feels making changes to the starting XI has paid off during Wrexham's busy run of fixtures.

It's been a frantic February for the Reds who go into tomorrow's clash against Gillingham at The Priestfield Stadium sitting third in League Two, three points behind leaders Stockport County with a game in hand.

Parkinson again freshened up the side for Tuesday's 1-1 draw at MK Dons with playmaker Elliot Lee, who has featured in every league game this season, named on the substitutes bench for just the second time.

Star striker Paul Mullin and fellow frontman Ollie Palmer were also among the replacements and although a couple of players are out injured, Parkinson feels he has got enough bodies to allow him to keep rotating with Wrexham also in action at Forest Green Rovers on Tuesday.

"The squad is important and we will just keep looking at that, and freshen it up if we feel we need to," he said.

"We might go with pretty much the same 11 but we just want to assess everybody.

"I was pleased with the team selection and how it worked against MK Dons but when you look around the bench, you think 'wow, that is some ammunition to come off the bench'.

"We wanted to freshen the team up but I felt fresh legs from the bench would be key.

"The plan felt like it was going to fall into place for us but the Will Boyle sending off just made it more difficult."

Boyle, shown a straight yellow card late in the game, was sent off for the second time since the turn of the year and is suspended against the Gills.
