WREXHAM drew 1-1 against MK Dons to extend the unbeaten run to three games in League Two and remain on the tails of leaders Stockport County.

Phil Parkinson's men won their previous two games and took the lead at Stadium MK through James McClean's fourth goal of the season but MK, who sit fifth, quickly equalised.

There were chances for the Reds' to make it a hat-trick of victories but it finished all-square, and both teams ended the contest with 10-men as Will Boyle was sent off for the second time in as many months for the visitors.

Wrexham remain third in the table, three points behind leaders Stockport who also drew 0-0 with Gillingham, while the Reds have a game in hand and are now one point adrift of second placed Mansfield..

Parkinson made five changes from the side that started the 1-0 home win over Notts County on Saturday.

Luke Bolton took over from Ryan Barnett in the right wing-back role while Jacob Mendy returned to the team on the opposite flank.

That allowed McClean to move into midfield where the Reds' boss was short of bodies, but there was a place for captain Luke Young who came in to make his 250th appearance for Wrexham.

Out went James Jones who was missing through injury and playmaker Elliot Lee, named on the substitutes bench for just the second time this season having started all the other league matches

The other two changes were in attack where Sam Dalby and Jack Marriott replaced Steven Fletcher, who scored the winner against the Magpies but was given a breather, and Paul Mullin.

MK saw a lot of the ball in the opening exchanges but when Marriott dispossessed a defender, the striker charged forward and his deflected effort was comfortably saved by goalkeeper Michael Kelly.

Wrexham continued to get into some promising positions.

Arthur Okonkwo's long clearance fell for Marriott who fired wide from a tight angle while MK were caught at the back but Dalby's shot was weak and blocked in the area.

However, Wrexham took the lead in the 22nd minute when Bolton got past Joe Tomlinson and his cross was deflected behind.

Young sent in the resulting corner and McClean got in front of his man to head into the net at the near post.

But MK equalised four minutes later.

A neat passing move ended with Dan Kemp smashing the ball past Okonkwo.

Buoyed by the goal, MK had another chance when Alex Gilbey cut inside but his drive was brilliantly saved by Okonkwo who got down low to keep Wrexham on level terms.

Dalby was unable to keep his shot down for Wrexham and McClean's long-range effort was just too high but MK went close when McClean's under-hit pass in the centre-circle was seized upon by Stephen Wearne who fed Gilbey and he fired wide.

MK almost took the lead in first-half injury time when Wrexham failed to clear their lines and Tomlinson's curling shot was heading for the top corner but an outstretched Okonkwo did fantastically well to tip the ball on to the post.

McClean fired into the side-netting at the start of the second half and Wrexham continued the lively start by almost taking the lead.

Young slid the ball into Marriott's path but the striker was denied by Kelly.

Wrexham continued to press and McClean's effort was deflected behind for a corner.

There was a huge let-off for Wrexham when Okonkwo fumbled Tomlinson shot but recovered to stop the ball on the line, with the officials deciding it hadn't crossed the whitewash.

That led to protests from the MK players that a goal should have been awarded and captain Dean Lewington was shown a red card for dissent.

Parkinson made a treble change on 63 minutes with Barnett, Lee and Mullin coming on for Bolton, Mendy and Marriott in an attempt to capitalise on the man advantage.

Two of the replacements combined as Mullin headed wide from Barnett's cross but Wrexham were left with 10-men themselves in the 78th minute when Boyle was shown a second yellow card for bringing down Matthew Dennis just outside the area.

Tomlinson's free-kick went over while Ollie Palmer played in Mullin and he was denied by Kelly at the other end.

Okonkwo pulled off a vital save to deny Tomlinson in added time and it finished honours even.
