WILL BOYLE won’t get carried away after helping Wrexham stop the rot and the centre-back stressed the importance of putting a run together in the quest for a second successive promotion.

Tuesday’s hard-fought 2-1 victory at Sutton United ended a run of four successive defeats, with three coming in League Two, and leaves the Reds well placed in the push for a top-three finish with 16 fixtures remaining.

Wrexham go into tomorrow’s clash with Notts County at The Racecourse sitting fourth in the table, six points behind leaders Stockport County with a game in hand, and Phil Parkinson’s men have also played less matches than Mansfield and Crewe who sit second and third.

A long unbeaten record helped Wrexham secure the National League title last season and Boyle says the players must strive to build on the win against second bottom Sutton.

"The important thing was to get the win whichever way it came," said Boyle.

“It is really tight up there. We have got to focus on what we can do.

“Everyone at the club knows from the last couple of years what it takes to achieve something; it takes momentum and you have to build a run so that is what we have got to focus on.

“We are well placed and if we can do that then we won’t be in a bad position at the end.

“One win doesn’t mean anything but it is nice to stop a little bit of a rot.”

On facing Notts County who sit seventh, Boyle added: “They are a good team.

“It will be a tough game and we will have to leave everything out there like we did at Sutton.”

Boyle was recalled to the side at Sutton and he scored the opening goal, while the defender was also solid at the back as Wrexham clinched three points thanks to Elliot Lee’s late winner after the lowly U’s had equalised.

“I am just happy to help the lads get the win,” said Boyle.

“Ultimately it is not about any one individual, it is going to be a team effort if we want to achieve what we want to achieve this season.

“Everyone plays their part on the pitch, on the bench, in the stand and training every day.

“I am happy that I played a bit more of a part than I feel like I might have done so far.”

Boyle took his tally to four goals and he added: "It was a nice moment and important for the team.

“Hopefully I can get a couple more to help the lads get over the line.

“But I don’t really care who scores as long as the ball goes in their net more times than it does ours.”

Although a regular at the start of the season after joining from Huddersfield in the summer, Boyle then found himself out of the team and when he made his first league start since September in last month’s Welsh derby defeat at Newport, the 28-year-old was shown a straight red card after just 18 minutes.

Boyle just took that disappointment on the chin.

“It wasn’t ideal but football is full of ups and downs,” he said.

“I am big enough and ugly enough - some might say - to take that disappointment.

“I won’t get too high and I won’t get too low.

“I will just try and do what I can to help the team.”
