PHIL PARKINSON hailed the togetherness in the Wrexham ranks after ending the barren run against Sutton United.

Wrexham made the trip to Gander Green Lane on the back of four successive defeats, with three coming in League Two, but the Reds beat the second bottom U's 2-1 to get back to winning ways.

It was a hard-fought contest with Will Boyle giving the visitors the lead on the stroke of half-time and although Sutton levelled in the second period, Elliot Lee scored his 14th goal of the season to send Wrexham home with a much-needed three points.

Parkinson praised the character shown by his players but says the victory, which leaves fourth placed Wrexham six points behind leaders Stockport County with a game in hand, was a real team effort.

"Games at this stage of the season are scrappy and you have got to be prepared to fight tooth and nail to win them, and we did that," he said.

"I am so pleased with the application of everybody; from all the staff who came down, the players, subs and the ones not involved, there was a real team togetherness and it has got us back to winning ways.

"I am so pleased with the win. It is an important win, we needed that on our travels in particular.

"We were on a run of games where we hadn't won. That happens in seasons but you have got to show spirit and resilience, and the lads showed that in abundance."

Wrexham's losing streak continued on Saturday when Bradford scored a 90th minute winner but Parkinson was pleased with the reaction.

"We haven't had many bad runs since I have been at the club," added the Reds' boss, whose side have 16 games remaining in the quest for a second successive promotion.

"Sometimes when you concede a late goal there can be a knock in confidence but you didn't see that.

"We just had to stand strong and accept that it was going to be that type of game, and come through the other side of it."
