WREXHAM striker Jake Bickerstaff has joined League Two rivals Accrington Stanley on loan for the rest of the season.

The 22-year-old, who recently signed a new contract keeping him at The Racecourse until the end of the 2025-26 campaign, has been a part of Phil Parkinson's plans this term and made his first league start for the club since 2020, bagging his first two Football League goals against Walsall and Swindon Town.

Having made a total of 15 appearances so far in all competitions in 2023-24, Bickerstaff now has six goals in his Reds' career.

However, Parkinson added to his attacking options by bringing in Jack Marriott from Fleetwood Town on transfer deadline day and Bickerstaff also has Paul Mullin, Ollie Palmer, Sam Dalby and Steven Fletcher as competition for a place up front so he made the temporary switch to Accrington to get more first team experience.

Bickerstaff came through the ranks at The Racecourse and scored on his debut for the senior side when he struck in the Scottish Challenge Cup victory against Ayr United in 2019, but didn’t make any league appearances during the Reds’ National League title-winning season, although he netted three times in two FA Trophy appearances.

He will not be eligible to play for Accrington against Wrexham in north Wales on Saturday March 2.
