PHIL PARKINSON has started adding to his squad before the January transfer window closed by completing the capture of Luke Bolton from Salford City.

The 24-year-old, who can play as a winger of full-back, has joined Wrexham from their League Two rivals for an undisclosed fee and put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half year contract, keeping him at The Racecourse until the end of the 2025-26 season.

Stockport-born Bolton began his career with Manchester City and made his breakthrough in the 2018-19 season when he made two appearances for the under 21 side in the EFL Trophy against Barnsley and Rochdale, scoring one goal.

Capped by England at under-20 level, Bolton spent the second half of the campaign on loan Wycombe Wanderers and made the temporary switch to Luton Town for the 2019-20 season, making 28 appearances in all competitions for the Hatters.

Bolton was then loaned to Dundee United for the 2020-21 campaign and he made 30 appearances for the Scottish club, scoring his first league goal in a 1-1 draw with Hibernian.

After making two more EFL Trophy appearances for Manchester City at the start of 2021-22, scoring in a 3-0 win at Scunthorpe, Bolton moved to Salford in January 2022.

In his time at the Peninsular Stadium, Bolton scored six goals in 78 league appearances.

Twenty of those came this season including October's clash at The Racecourse when Wrexham came from 2-0 down to win 3-2.

Bolton told the official club website: “I’m buzzing to be here and how the Club has kicked on League Two to be second in the table is something I want to be a part of. “Hopefully we can push on and go for the title because it’s not out of the picture that’s for sure and I’m glad to be part of it."

Manager Phil Parkinson added: "Luke’s a really good addition to the squad. He’s going to be a player that adds real pace and dynamism to the team.”
