PHIL PARKINSON can't wait to be back where he belongs on the touchline when Wrexham continue the promotion push against Salford City at The Peninsula Stadium on Saturday.

The Reds boss was handed a one-match touchline ban due to the accumulation of yellow cards throughout the season.

His latest booking came shortly after Will Boyle was shown a straight red in the 1-0 Welsh derby defeat to Newport County on January 20 so Parkinson had to watch Tuesday's 4-1 loss against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park in the FA Cup fourth round from the stands.

Being so far away from the action definitely  wasn't Parkinson's cup of tea.

"It was different," he said.

"It was difficult because it is great to be right involved in the action and being up there is a different kind of perspective on the game."

Parkinson, who led Wrexham to the National League title following a record-breaking 2022-23 campaign, took his first steps in management in 2003 when he was appointed Colchester United boss.

Two decades later and the 56-year-old admits some of the yellow cards shown to managers this season have been innocuous.

"If you get three bookings you get suspended but I am still not sure actually what I got booked for at Newport, I am still waiting for a response," added Parkinson.

"But managers have been booked for celebrating goals this season and it is so easy to pick up yellow cards.

"It is a passionate game. Of course, if you show dissent towards officials and your language is not right you can expect a yellow card but we have been getting yellows for absolutely innocuous things.

"I am glad the suspension is out of the way and I am looking forward to being back on the touchline at the weekend."

Wrexham could have some new faces by the time the game kicks off at 3pm on Saturday with Parkinson admitting he could make additions if the right player becomes available at the right price in today’s transfer deadline day.
