PHIL PARKINSON is giving little away regrading his plans during the January transfer window.

After clinching the National League title in 2022-23 and return to the Football League following a 15-year absence, Wrexham have continued to go from strength to strength this season.

The Reds go into Saturday's Welsh derby against Newport County at The Racecourse sitting third in League Two, six points behind leaders Stockport with a game in hand.

Parkinson bolstered his squad in the summer and there is the possibility new signings will be added in the New Year to give the promotion challenge a boost but he was non-committal on what he would like to do.

"I don't want to make any predictions for January in terms of incoming players," said the Reds' boss.

"We have got a strong squad but we are always looking.

"As our supporters know, we are always striving to improve and we are assessing a lot of situations at the moment but we are keeping our cards close to our chest."

Parkinson has more options at his disposal with Eoghan O'Connell making his comeback from injury in Saturday's 2-1 win against Colchester United while Ryan Barnett and Steven Fletcher are back in training.

Three senior players who have not been able to feature in league matches could also come in from the cold next month.

Clubs in League Two are limited to a 22-man squad, although that number does not include goalkeepers or players who were under the age of 21 - such as centre-back Max Cleworth - at the start of the calendar year.

There was no place for wing-backs Bryce Hosannah and Callum McFadzean, nor striker Billy Waters, who have only been able to feature in cup games since September, but those three will be eligible in January until clubs submit new squad lists when the window closes.

"We are just assessing the squad as we go along," said Parkinson.

"We have got players coming back from injury and we have got other players who haven't even been in the 22-man squad so once January 1 kicks-in, we can then bring those players back into the squad because the 22-man squad rule doesn't count through January.

"We are just seeing how Fletch is, seeing how Barney looks coming back and just looking at various options for the month of January.

"I am looking forward to welcoming players back into the group."
