PHIL PARKINSON had no complaints after Wrexham's game against Forest Green Rovers was postponed but the Reds' boss felt for supporters who had already arrived in Gloucestershire.

Saturday's League Two match was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at The New Lawn.

Heavy rain overnight put the fixture in doubt and the playing surface was deemed unplayable following a pitch inspection at 11:30am.

"It is obviously frustrating for ourselves and our supporters who had set-off as well," said Parkinson, whose side remain second in the table following Saturday's matches.

"But there was water lying on the pitch and it was unplayable; we have had an unprecedented amount of rain so the referee was given very little choice really.

"It is one of those things. It is the referee's decision, we obviously wanted the game on and we prepared well for it but certain things are out of your control.

"The lads were disappointed and the staff were, everybody was ready for action. We went the day before so we were already down there.

"I feel for the supporters, some had got quite a long way down so they will be frustrated but we had a lot of rain and other games around the country were off as well."

The inspection took place just a few hours before kick-off and Parkinson added: "Could the inspection been done earlier? I am not sure.

"I am not sure where the referee came from but it is always disappointing when a game is called off.

"We just used the weekend to switch off from football, have a rest and get ready for next weekend against Colchester."

Wrexham now have two games to re-arrange as the clash at MK Dons, which was sue to take place on Saturday January 6, has been called off because the Reds have progressed to the FA Cup third round where they have a derby against Shrewsbury Town at The Croud Meadow to look forward to.

Parkinson, wary of a fixture backlog, said: "We need to swap the game against MK Dons because we are in the FA Cup so we don't want to be falling behind."

The cup tie against League One side Shrewsbury has been moved to Sunday, January 7 with a 2pm kick-off, and will be shown live on S4C.

"2pm on Sunday is not a bad day for us," added Parkinson, who hopes to have some of his injured players available in the coming weeks.

"It is a good kick-off time for us and it gives us an extra day after the New Year's Day game.

"I am not sure how many tickets we are going to get but with the game being on television, it enables more of our supporters to watch it."
