WREXHAM bowed out of the EFL Trophy after losing 3-2 against Burton Albion at The Racecourse.

The League One side made a flying start to the second round tie, taking a two-nil lead with less than three minutes on the clock.

Phil Parkinson made wholesale changes and Sam Dalby quickly pulled a goal back but the Brewers went 3-1 up in the second half.

Jordan Davies reduced the deficit in added time but it is the Brewers who progressed to the last 16.

Here's how the players rated.

LUKE MCNICHOLAS: Could have done better for the opening goal. 6

LIAM MCALINDEN: Made inroads down the right with lot of good things coming from down his flank. Close to a goal. 6

AARON JAMES: The defence was shellshocked after Burton's quickfire start but he stuck to his task. 6

MAX CLEWORTH: Wrexham came through a poor start but the damage was done. 6

WILL BOYLE: Will be disappointed with the first goal inside the opening 30 seconds. 6

CALLUM MCFADZEAN: A rare appearance by the wing-back and was far more in the game in the second half. 6

JAMES JONES: Almost scored a spectacular goal with a chip from around 40 yards. 6

LUKE YOUNG: Got his foot on the ball after Burton scored two early goals as Wrexham responded well. 6

JORDAN DAVIES: The midfielder got into some good positions and scored late on but it was too late. 6

SAM DALBY: Scored a brilliant goal to put Wrexham back in the game and was a handful all night. 7

JAKE BICKERSTAFF: Some near touches in attack and linked up well with Dalby. 6
