WREXHAM came from behind to beat Port Vale 2-1 at The Racecourse and secure top spot in their EFL Trophy group.

Phil Parkinson's side had already progressed to the knockout stages and a third victory in three group games means the Reds are guaranteed a home tie in the last 32 of a competition they won in 2005.

Substitutes Paul Mullin and James McClean came off the bench on the hour mark to turn the game in Wrexham's favour.

Parkinson made 11 changes to the side that triumphed 2-1 at Mansfield Town in Saturday's FA Cup first round tie and with Wrexham 1-0 down to the League One outfit at the break, McClean set-up Mullin for the equaliser.

McClean then headed home Luke Young's corner to net his first Wrexham goal and secure success.

Here's how the players rated.

LUKE MCNICHOLAS: Made one save of note in the first half and had no chance for the goal. Safe hands throughout. 7

BRYCE HOSANNAH: Lively down the right flank and also did his bit at the back with a key tackle in the first half. 6

AARON JAMES: The youngster acquitted himself well in the Reds' defence. 6

MAX CLEWORTH: Played as the middle centre-back and did well, getting a much needed game under his belt. 7

WILL BOYLE: Offered experience in the side and was solid at the back. 6

DAN DAVIES: Handed his professional debut at left wing-back and got a valuable hour. 6

LIAM MCALINDEN: Wrexham were much better in the second half. 6

LUKE YOUNG: Captain Young was back in the starting line-up and had the assist for McClean's winner. 6

JORDAN DAVIES: Had brilliant chance to score early in the second period and one diagonal pass was superb. 6

BILLY WATERS: Didn't get much joy in attack but Wrexham found it tough going first half. 6

JAKE BICKERSTAFF: Put himself about and had a couple of chances in the first half. 6
