JAMES MCCLEAN would prefer it if Wrexham made life easier for themselves but the wing-back doesn't care as long as they keep winning games.
Phil Parkinson's men go into tomorrow's League Two match of the day with Notts County at Meadow Lane on the back of Tuesday's 2-1 victory at home to Sutton United.
Paul Mullin gave Wrexham an early lead but Sutton were the better side after the break and equalised, although the battling Reds' put late pressure on the U's and leading scorer Elliot Lee bagged an 89th minute winner.
There has been no shortage of late goals and comebacks, particularly at The STóK Cae Ras, this season and although he would love more routine victories, picking up three points is all that matters to McClean.
"It seems to be the Wrexham way," said McClean. "It's not dull, that's for sure!
"It's no coincidence that we keep doing it time and time again, and the fans at that end have a huge part to play in that.
"Not only the quality we have in the squad but it shows the character we have to keep going and get late goals and late winners. It's credit to the lads.
"It would be nice to have a few boring, more comfortable games but as long as we are winning it doesn't really matter."
Lee's ninth goal of the season secured victory and extended the unbeaten run to seven games in all competitions.
"We made it more difficult for ourselves than we should have but it is tough when teams come and sit behind the ball, and try and make it scrappy," said McClean.
"Sometimes you can fall into that trap and it becomes a difficult game but we kept going till the end, kept trying to do the right things and kept putting the pressure on, and another great goal from Elliot got us the win.
"When you have that quality and that character, it's a lovely combination to have."
McClean and his team-mates are now preparing for the top of the table showdown against Notts County who finished runners-up to National League champions Wrexham last season before clinching promotion via the play-offs.
County sit second, three points ahead of Wrexham, and the Irishman is relishing the challenge.
"Notts County have had a good start to the season as well so both teams are up there," said McClean.
"It will be another tough game which will pose different problems but it is up to us to solve them.
"We are seven games unbeaten so we should be going into the game confident and look forward to it."
Wrexham, five points behind leaders Stockport, occupy an automatic promotion place and although prizes aren't given out in October, McClean feels it is still important to be among the frontrunners.
"You want to be up there as long as possible, it's where you want to be at the end of the season," he added.
"Night's like that when you are not at your best and you win, that could be a big three points at the end of the season."
