CALUM MCINTYRE has been reflecting on a “historic” outcome as Chester claimed a brilliant win at Hartlepool United to book their spot in the first round of the FA Cup.

Goals from Elliott Whitehouse and Charlie Caton (pictured) sealed victory for the National League North Blues at their National League hosts, seeing Chester into the first round of the competition for the first time in nine years, where they’ll host either York City or Needham Market early next month.

Boss McIntyre told Chester FC TV: “A historic result that puts the football club into the first round proper of the FA Cup.

“I thought you saw everything I want a Chester side to be. Hard-working, organised, disciplined.

“I thought they were terrific.

“I know what being a part of the football club means to them and I thought they really demonstrated that today.”

McIntyre was also pleased for the Blues’ fans who headed north.

“Delighted for the supporters, particularly in recent years pre the last 12 months where perhaps cup competitions weren’t happy hunting grounds for the football club,” he added.

Macclesfield, where Wrexham-born Robbie Savage is director of football, lost out 3-1 at National League North Alfreton Town, however Marine, managed by ex-Chester boss Neil Young, are through with a stunning 1-0 win at National League AFC Halifax Town.
