WREXHAM maintained their 100 per cent in the EFL Trophy by defeating Crewe Alexandra 3-0 at Gresty Road to progress to the knockout stages of a competition the Reds won in 2005.

The damage was done in the opening 13 minutes as Phil Parkinson's men went 2-0 up through an own goal and Jordan Davies' strike.

In control against their fellow-League Two opponents, the Reds finished the job off in the second half when captain Luke Young converted a penalty after Jake Bickerstaff was fouled in the area and Crewe were left with 10-men.

Parkinson's men, who beat Newcastle United under 21s 1-0 in their opening group game, are guaranteed to finish in the top-two.

There is one game remaining next month at home to Port Vale who are also through.

Here's how the Wrexham players rated:

LUKE MCNICHOLAS: Make a few good saves to keep Crewe at bay. Safe hands throughout and decent debut. 7

BRYCE HOSANNAH: Looked lively down the right flank despite a lack of game-time. 7

JORDAN TUNNICLIFFE: Did his bit at the back and might claim the opener but it was an own goal. 7

MAX CLEWORTH: Played as the middle centre-back and was rock solid throughout, having an excellent game. 7

WILL BOYLE: The defence did well, keeping a clean sheet and another cup win. 7

LIAM MCALINDEN: Worked hard on the left wing on a rare opportunity. 7

ANDY CANNON: There was a lot of energy and attacking intent by Wrexham. 7

LUKE YOUNG: Back in the team and helped Wrexham control the first half in particular. Converted penalty to make it 3-0. 7

SAM DALBY: No real chances but worked hard in attack. 7

JAKE BICKERSTAFF: Superb lay-off for Davies to go on and score the second goal. Also won the penalty and was a handful. 7
