PHIL PARKINSON will be appealing against the straight red card shown to Ryan Barnett in Saturday's 3-3 draw with Crewe Alexandra at The STóK Cae Ras.

The wing-back was sent off in the 36th minute of the League Two fixture by referee Lee Swabey following a late challenge on Shillow Tracey.

Parkinson didn't feel it warranted a dismissal by Swabey, who made a number of controversial decisions during the derby clash, and is hoping it gets overturned.

"The sending off incident is a very poor decision," said the Reds' boss, who saw his side trail three times but secure a share of the spoils thanks to substitute Steven Fletcher's leveller deep into stoppage time.

"The fourth official has given it.

"I have been crying out for fourth officials and the linesmen to get involved but it is never a sending off.

"It is a low challenge, it is not dangering anybody at all and we will be appealing that straight away.

"It was a greasy, slick surface and I think as a referee when you come into a game like that, you have got to make allowances for the conditions.

"The minute you start booking people early in the game you set a precedent.

"I spoke to him before the game on the pitch about the conditions and he seemed so calm and relaxed; I thought he was going to be a good ref but I don't think he handled the stage well.

"It was a setback, we got back in the game and conceded again but we just kept going.

"I feel for Barney because he is a good player and he was disappointed at half-time but as a group we stood strong."
