AFTER an unscheduled break, there’s finally a return to action for Gresford Athletic this evening.

Work on the pitch at The Rock has seen Athletic’s last two matches being postponed, however they will be raring to go for the trip to unbeaten Flint Town United.

It seems like an age, but Gresford’s last run-out was a 1-1 draw at Ruthin Town, where they finished with just nine men after Charlie Mann and Nathan Williams were sent off.

Assistant boss Jonathan Hill-Dunt said: “We didn’t play well, but we were comfortable until the red cards.

“We were planning for the first red card and then the second red card happens.

“Even with nine men, they equalised, but they didn’t create much.

“We could have done enough in the first hour and we should have been two-or-three up.

“More often than not, in this league you need to score two to win.”

Mann and Williams will both be suspended tonight and Hill-Dunt added: “We are confident going into any game, but especially against teams that try and play a bit of football.”

Boss Lee Fowler is looking for his Flint side to continue their unbeaten start to the season, but he knows it won’t be easy.

He said: “Yes, they have had a stop-start season so far, but they’re a good team.

“If we have 11 men on the pitch, I feel we beat Ruthin and if Gresford keep 11 on the pitch at Ruthin, they see the game out.

“We know what they are like.

“We watched them quite a few times last season and they’re losing two of their defensive players (for Monday).”

As a result, Fowler is anticipating a potential change of shape in how Gresford line-up for tonight’s encounter.

“We are expecting changes to accommodate the players they have lost,” he added.

Flint will welcome Jay Owen, Joe Williams and Jake Phillips (pictured right) back into the squad.

Paddy Lacey is suspended for the next three matches following his red card at Ruthin.

Today’s remaining match sees Bangor 1876 at home to Prestatyn Town.

Neil Mitchell scored four as Caersws went second with a 5-1 rout of Ruthin Town on Saturday.

In the weekend’s only other game, Guilsfield and Llanidloes drew 1-1.
