PHIL PARKINSON can't wait to experience at first hand how American people have embraced Wrexham Football Club.

The Reds, who won the National League title following a record-breaking 2022-23 season, will prepare for their first campaign back in the Football League following a 15-year absence by embarking on a pre-season tour of the States.

As part of the training camp, Wrexham will play four friendlies.

High-profile matches against Chelsea (Wednesday July 19 in North Carolina), LA Galaxy reserves (Saturday July 22 in California) and a youth-drawn Manchester United side (Tuesday July 25 in San Diego) have been arranged, and Wrexham will complete the trip with another game on the East Coast on Friday July 28.

Wrexham has enjoyed huge popularity in America since Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney completed their takeover at The Racecourse in February 2021 with the documentary series Welcome to Wrexham gaining the club even more fans Stateside.

Thousands of those supporters attended last week's $1m winner-takes-all seven-a-side tournament in North Carolina where a Wrexham team competed.

First-team coach Dave Jones was player-manager of the Wrexham Red Dragons side which was made up of current, former and guest players.

Wrexham finished top of Group E after winning all three games against Cesc Fabregas’ Como 1907, a US Women’s team and Say Word FC but bowed out of the 32-team event after losing to a golden goal against Conrad and Beasley United in the round of 16.

The Reds have risen to fame in the States and Parkinson is looking forward to seeing it for himself.

"It is incredible the support we have got in America," said Parkinson.

"We are looking forward to getting over there and meeting some of our American supporters.

"I spoke to the staff that were over there and they said as much as they would like to have progressed even further in the tournament, the lads and the staff were amazed with the amount of support that the club has got over in America.

"It was a very enjoyable experience by all accounts and the pre-season tour is really exciting for us all.

"We are looking forward to getting the lads back for a couple of weeks training before that and we will enjoy the experience."

Wrexham have become a big hit in America and although Parkinson admits it is dream trip for both players and staff, he is insists the venture is an important part of the build-up to the League Two campaign which starts on Saturday August 5.

"It is pre-season and it is a trip where we are going to be working really hard preparing for the new season," added the Reds' boss.

"But equally, these opportunities don't come along very often in your career at this level.

"Obviously Premier League teams go to America and further afield so it is a great opportunity for us, and we will be going out there to savour every moment of it.

"The most important thing is that we make it a fruitful trip in terms of our preparation for the season but hopefully it is an enjoyable one as well."
