EXPECTATIONS remain high at The Racecourse but Ben Tozer believes there will be less pressure on Wrexham next season because there are more automatic promotion places up for grabs in League Two.

Phil Parkinson's men celebrated a record-breaking campaign by clinching the National League title and return to the Football League following a 15-year absence.

Only one team goes straight up in the fifth tier and Notts County, who were involved in an incredible battle with Wrexham for top spot, will also be in League Two in 2023-24 after winning last Sunday's play-off final against Chesterfield.

A top-three finish will secure automatic promotion to League One and club captain Tozer - named in the National League Team of the Season - believes that will take some of the pressure off the Reds who are being backed by bookmakers to continue rising through the divisions under Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

"The National League is tougher than League Two for many reasons and I don't see why we can't challenge," said centre-back Tozer, who saw Wrexham finish runners-up to champions Stockport County in 2021-22 before losing to Grimsby Town in the play-off semi-final.

"Look at Stockport this season, they were up there in League Two.

"Three teams going up automatically takes a bit of pressure off in a way because there is more chance of going up.

"We will enjoy this moment right now but as soon as it comes to it, it is full focus on that."
