NORTH East Wales futsal players have taken part in an international contest.

FC United of Wrexham U12s tackled Australia Futsal U14s in a well-contested match.

With a two-year age advantage, it's no surprise to see that the Australians came out on top 5-1, but the younger FC United players gave their all.

FC United of Wrexham manager Andrew Ruscoe said: "The match came about from communication with the Australia coordinator Alistair Miller asking myself over social media would we be interested in playing the Australian Futsal U14s, which we agreed.

"So we put our Under 12s against them.

"The result was 5-1 to Australia but our lads were outstanding especially against the physicality, height and sports differences.

"The goalscorer was Logan Hay and the man of matches, which were voted by Australia, were Kyrun Ruscoe and Jayden Roberts."

It's been a fine campaign so far for FC United and Ruscoe added: "The team have been doing fantastic this season but still have lots to improve on.

"It's been a unique season in all fairness especially with Ryan Reynolds donating to us to get us the Deadpool kits with the Parish Church on them.

"The lads have had some great battles and pulled off some shock results against well established football academy sides but this is futsal so it can pull off shock wins.

"The boys reached the English North Futsal Alliance finals at Tranmere, but unfortunately over two legs fell short.

"But to reach a national competition is some achievement still."

FC United of Manchester will now go to the supplementary national plate finals in Birmingham.

This will continue a journey that has been ongoing for a number of years.

"The group has been going since they were U5s and, yes, many changes have happened but the group has evolved and has developed over the years.

"The group have a target of reaching 500 games before they are Under 17s so they become experienced in the sport of futsal so that we can compete for the FAW Welsh Futsal Elite League and hopefully get into the UEFA Futsal Champions League.

"So games like Australia and achievements of reaching northern finals is all important when building such a group like the one we have built.

"Hopefully these lads achieve their dreams."
