WREXHAM brought the curtain down on a record-breaking season by drawing 1-1 against Torquay United at Plainmoor.

It was party time for Reds supporters who headed down to Devon in their droves after Phil Parkinson's side beat Boreham Wood 3-0 the previous weekend to clinch automatic promotion to the Football League.

Playing the final game of a 15-year non-league era, the result didn't really matter with Wrexham enjoying a memorable campaign that will go down in history.

But the Reds avoided defeat after going behind and Torquay were relegated to National League South.

Parkinson named the same side that started the victory against Boreham Wood which clinched the title

There was a change on the substitutes bench with striker Billy Waters, who hasn't featured since joining the Reds from Barrow in March, replacing Jordan Davies.

Torquay, who had a slim chance of staying up heading into the last game, gave Wrexham a guard of honour but the Gulls went straight at the visitors when the game got underway.

Dean Moxey's cross was tipped over the bar by Ben Foster who caught the resulting corner and picked out Mullin with the striker firing wide.

The Reds were awarded a fifth minute penalty when Sam Dalby's cross was handled in the area by Nico Lawrence but goalkeeper Mark Halstead guessed the right way and saved Mullin's spot-kick.

Halstead made a brilliant stop to keep out Eoghan O'Connell's header from Elliot Lee's corner and with Wrexham continuing to press, Ryan Barnett dragged a shot wide after cutting inside.

Aaron Jarvis picked out Frank Nouble who headed straight at Foster for Torquay but Wrexham went straight back on the attack and Barnett threaded a pass through to Mullin who was denied by Halstead's outstretched leg.

Halstead made another fine save to keep out Tom O'Connor's free-kick while Foster gathered Jarvis' header at the other end.

It remained goalless at the break while Lee headed wide from Barnett's cross at the start of the second half.

Barnett then played a one-two with Mullin and the wing-back was thwarted by Halstead with his follow-up blocked by a defender.

However, Torquay took the lead in the 53rd minute.

Jarvis delivered a low cross into the danger-zone and Nouble converted.

Wrexham responded with Mullin playing the ball into Dalby whose effort was turned behind by Halstead.

Mullin also latched onto James Jones through-ball and his cross took a deflection off Lawrence and hit the side-netting to Halstead's relief.

An unmarked Asa Hall should have done better when he headed wide while Jacob Mendy's effort was deflected wide at the other end.

But Wrexham were back on level terms with 10 minutes to go.

Substitute Ollie Palmer got the better of his man and squared to Lee who slotted into the net.

The Reds kept going and Jones spotted Halstead off his line but the ball just cleared the bar.

Neither side could find a winner, with Waters having a goal ruled out for offside, and Wrexham's final game of the season finished all-square.
