THE National League title is in the bag but Phil Parkinson insists Wrexham want to complete a record-breaking campaign with another win against Torquay United tomorrow.

Saturday’s 3-1 home win over Boreham Wood secured automatic promotion and return to the Football League.

The pressure is off when Wrexham face the Gulls in their final fixture of the 15-year non-league era but Parkinson, who could elect to make changes at Plainmoor, says the Reds will not be taking their foot off the gas.

“We want to go down there and give a good account of ourselves, and finish the season in a professional way whatever team we pick,” said Parkinson, whose red card at Barnet has now been wiped out.

“We have got an incredible points tally and it will be great to add to that.

“The most important thing is to represent the club again in a professional way and also respect the league.”

Torquay are staring relegation in the face, with Gary Johnson’s side three points adrift of safety and with a significantly worse goal difference to Maidenhead United, the team immediately outside the drop zone.

Parkinson is just concentrating on his side ending a successful season on a high.

“Torquay need a massive swing but I just want to focus on us,” added the Reds’ boss.

“The aim was promotion and it was great to get it done in front of our home fans.

“Torquay is always a tough place to go but we can go and enjoy that now.”

Parkinson is already planning for next season and while some new signings are inevitable, the Reds’ boss feels his squad is already in good shape.

“We have got players who are proven above this level,” said Parkinson.

“The challenge for us has been getting out of this division because as everyone knows, only one team gets promoted.

“We have got players that I think will rise to the occasion next year as well.”
