IT'S a massive week for Wrexham Football Club and it's one down with one to go after beating lowly Yeovil 3-0 at The Racecourse.

Saturday's goalless draw with Barnet meant Phil Parkinson's side needed six points to clinch the National League title and they had the chance to achieve that with two home wins against the Glovers and then Boreham Wood on Saturday.

There is still a final day clash at Torquay United to come but the Reds want to finish the job off as quick as possible and they took another step closer to clinching automatic promotion by getting the better of Yeovil, who were relegated as a result of the defeat.

It now promises to be some occasion when Wrexham face The Wood at The Racecourse this weekend knowing they will be crowned champions if they pick up another victory.

Title rivals Notts County are hoping to capitalise on any slip-up with two games remaining but the Reds are in pole position as they aim to return to the Football League following a 15-year absence.

Victory against Yeovil - cheered on by co-chairman Rob McElhenney - took Wrexham up to 107 points, setting a new record in the National League, and the Reds will now be looking to finish the job off at the first opportunity.

It wasn't a classic and Wrexham were far from their best in the opening period but it was just a case of getting over the line and second half goals from Anthony Forde, James Jones and Paul Mullin - netting for the 45th time this season - secured the win and maintained the unbeaten home record.

Now it's a case of bring on Boreham Wood!

Parkinson made two changes from the side that drew against Barnet on Saturday.

With Wrexham failing with their appeal to get the red card Callum McFadzean picked up at The Hive overturned, and Jacob Mendy still missing with a thigh injury, Forde took over in the left wing-back position.

The other change was in attack with Sam Dalby preferred to Ollie Palmer who dropped to the substitutes bench.

Wrexham made a bright start and there was an early sight of goal when Paul Mullin's cross came back out to Forde whose shot was blocked by a defender.

Neat build-up play led to another opportunity with Mullin picking out Sam Dalby who laid off to Andy Cannon and his 25-yard drive fell narrowly wide of the target.

Although Wrexham were on top, they created very little when they reached the final third.

Mullin brought a comfortable save out of goalkeeper Will Buse after cutting inside from Elliot Lee's quickly taken free-kick but Yeovil countered and Matt Worthington brought a smart save out of Reds' stopper Ben Foster.

Back at the other end and Tom O'Connor headed over from Ben Tozer's long throw-in but despite having the upper hand, there was a lack of clear cut chances and it remained goalless at the break.

Wrexham needed to step up a gear in the second half and Forde's low shot lacked pace and was easily gathered by Buse.

However, the Reds broke the deadlock in the 60th minute.

Yeovil failed to deal with a cross, the ball broke for Forde who made room for a shot and the wing-back found the back of the net with the aid of a deflection from just outside the area.

Eager to build on their lead, Mullin's effort deflected onto the roof of net but Wrexham made it 2-0 on 72 minutes.

Mullin put the ball back into the danger-zone, Lee's shot was saved by Buse but Jones fired home the loose ball.

There was no let up from Wrexham and after Mullin was denied by Buse, it became 3-0 after 77 minutes.

Ryan Barnett crossed from the right and Mullin netted with a looping header.

Wrexham continued to put the pressure on and Tozer's shot was tipped over by Buse.

Foster was called upon to make two late saves but Wrexham kept a clean sheet and victory leaves the Reds on the brink of automatic promotion.
