OLLIE PALMER would like to have scored more goals in the title push but the striker was pleased to play his part in a massive win as Wrexham took a step closer to automatic promotion.

Phil Parkinson’s side trailed 1-0 at the break in the top of the table clash with Notts County but turned things around to lead 2-1 in the second half.

Although the Magpies levelled, Wrexham went 3-2 up and Ben Foster made a last-gasp penalty save to secure victory which took the Reds three points ahead of County with a game in hand.

Palmer, who put in the hard yards in attack, says hard-work paid off.

“What a great game, an amazing day,” said Palmer. “It reminds me of the Dover game last season.

“The workrate of the team was unbelievable.

“That’s what you have got to do in games like that, you have got to turn up and work for the team.

“Notts County are a top side and to put the work-rate in that we did to nullify their threat was an incredible achievement.”

Palmer added: “It was disappointing to go behind, it was a great set-piece for their goal.

“We spoke about character at half-time and that is what it was all about.

“We worked so hard and you have to against sides like this.

“And then Ben Foster did the final bit of magic. He made a match-winning save that may be a title-winning save.”

Palmer has netted 18 goals in all competitions this season and while he would like to contributed more in recent weeks - he has scored four times since the turn of the year - wins come first for the frontmen with Wrexham in pole position for the title with four games left.

“Obviously I have not scored as many goals recently that I wanted to but I don’t care who scores as long as we win,” he added.

“I maintain that; whether I score or I don’t score, it is about the three points and I mean that from the bottom of my heart.

“We got a valuable three points against County.”
