PLAYING on an artificial playing surface took its toll on the players but Phil Parkinson says it will be all systems go when Wrexham continue the automatic promotion challenge against York City at The Racecourse tomorrow.

The Reds made it three wins from as many matches on 4G pitches this season when they won 2-1 at Bromley on Saturday and Parkinson’s side now hold a three point lead over Notts County at the top of the National League with a game in hand.

With eight matches remaining, Wrexham are in a strong position in the race for the title and the Reds’ boss is pleased with how preparations have gone for the clash with the Minstermen.

“There were a few stiff legs which you are always going to get after playing on astroturf,” said Parkinson.

“The medical team worked really hard to get them all ready for a good day’s training on Tuesday.

“I was pleased with how that went and we built up the work in our preparation for the York game.”

Wrexham have now had two free midweeks following a gruelling fixture schedule and the time has been spent positively on the training pitch with not having a Tuesday game ahead of the York clash.

“The squad and staff were definitely ready for last week where we didn’t have a midweek game,” said Parkinson.

“Whether there is a game or there isn’t a game, we try and make every day a positive one and I feel the lads have been really good this week.”

York are currently 18th in the table, eight points above the relegation zone with eight games to go.

Despite their lowly position, Parkinson will not be taking the visitors lightly.

“I saw them play Altrincham last Tuesday at home,” he added.

“They were a bit unlucky to lose and then they beat Dorking to stretch that gap between themselves and the bottom four.

“It was a crucial win for them.

“Like everybody, we will assess them and give them the utmost respect.”
