PAUL MULLIN scored a brace to take his tally for the season to 40 goals as Wrexham won 2-1 against Bromley at Hayes Lane to give their National League automatic promotion push a huge boost.

It was a big day in the race for the title with Phil Parkinson's side now holding a three point lead over second placed Notts County who drew 1-1 at Barnet, and the Reds also have a game in hand.

Wrexham, unbeaten in 26 league outings, have eight matches remaining and are back in action on Saturday at home to York City.

Parkinson made one change from the side that started the 1-0 win against Southend the previous weekend.

Play-maker Elliot Lee was ruled out due to illness so Jordan Davies came into the midfield for his first start since he sustained a knee injury in the 4-1 FA Cup second round win against Farnborough on November 26 which kept him out for three months.

Captain Luke Young, who did not feature in the squad for the previous two matches, took over from Davies on the substitutes bench.

Kick-off was delayed by 15 minutes due to supporters being stuck in traffic and when the action got underway, Wrexham almost took a second minute lead when Ollie Palmer's downward header was cleared off the line from Ben Tozer's throw-in.

Wrexham came close again when Ryan Barnett's cross was headed against the top of the bar by Jacob Mendy.

The chances kept coming with James Jones running at goal before sliding a pass through to Mullin whose shot was blocked by defender Callum Reynolds and from the resulting corner taken by Davies, Tozer's header fell narrowly wide.

Bromley's first opportunity came when Reynolds spotted Reds' goalkeeper Rob Lainton off his line but the defender's long range effort landed on the roof of the net.

Tozer also made a superb block in the area to deny Michael Cheek and with Bromley ending the half strongly, Eoghan O'Connell made a vital clearance in the six yard box following a well-worked Ravens free-kick.

Parkinson was forced into a change for the start of the second half with goalkeeper Mark Howard replacing the injured Lainton while Wrexham had an early chance when Mullin's header from Tozer's cross was saved by Sam Long.

A good move ended with Davies' shot parried by Long and the rebound hit Mullin who was unable to react, but Wrexham went 1-0 up in the 57th minute.

Jones sent in a cross from the right and Mullin headed home.

Just three minutes later and it got even better for Wrexham who doubled their lead.

Tozer's throw-in was fumbled by Long and Mullin turned the ball into the back of the net.

However, Bromley pulled a goal back on 63 minutes after making inroads down the right.

Substitute Louis Dennis managed to shoot across goal and Michael Cheek make no mistake.

Bromley were buoyed by the goal and Davies made a brilliant tackle in the area to stop Omar Sowunmi from crossing into the danger zone while Cheek fired wide after racing onto a long ball.

The Ravens continued to press and Corey Whitely struck the outside of the post but Wrexham held on for a massive win.
