JAMES JONES was delighted to score a crucial goal in Sunday's FA Cup thriller against Sheffield United and the midfielder felt Wrexham deserved to win the fourth round tie.

Phil Parkinson's side were held to a 3-3 draw by the Championship high-fliers who earned a replay after netting a stoppage time equaliser.

Just over 60 seconds were on the clock when the Blades took the lead and Wrexham saw centre-backs Jordan Tunnicliffe and Aaron Hayden go off injured in the opening 10 minutes.

But Wrexham turned things around to lead 2-1 in the second half thanks to substitute Jones and Tom O'Connor and although United levelled, Paul Mullin put the Reds back ahead with four minutes to go.

The Blades secured a draw in injury time and although disappointed not to register victory, Jones felt Wrexham gave a good account of themselves.

"It was an entertaining one for the neutral," said Jones.

"We have shown good character.

"To concede early doors and lose two key players, we could quite easily have gone on to lose 5-0.

"I thought we deserved to win but it shows where we are at as group that we can bounce back from disappointments and go toe-to-toe with a team that has got a good chance of being in the Premier League next year.

"It was disappointing to concede the way we did at the end.

"It is a bit of a sickener but I am sure we will take the positives out of it."

Jones made it 1-1 in the 50th minute when he bundled the ball home from close range after Ben Tozer's throw-in was flicked on.

It was his fourth goal of the season and it meant a lot to the 26-year-old.

"I just tried to swivel and get it back across where it came from," said Jones.

"It has gone over the line which is all that matters and it was a great feeling to score that kind of goal and what it meant in the game.

"I felt the goal was coming and I was delighted to get it."

Wrexham continue the National League title challenge before facing the Blades in next week's replay at Bramall Lane.

The Reds, who are top of the table, head to Altrincham on Saturday and Jones wants to get over the disappointment of conceding the late equaliser against United by picking up another important league win.

"It is done now. We can't go back in time and change anything," he added.

"We have just got to dust ourselves down and go to their place and try to see the job through.

"In between that we have got a league game which is still the most important thing.

"We have not lost sight of that. The FA Cup is a nice bonus on top.

"We have just got to regroup and get ready for Altrincham."
