PAUL MULLIN knew Coventry City weren't finished when they trailed 4-1 with 10 men but the striker says it was a job well done in the end as Wrexham won 4-3 and pulled off a huge FA Cup upset at The CBS Arena.

Wrexham, backed by 4,500 travelling supporters, went 2-0 up in the third round tie through Sam Dalby and Elliot Lee and although the Championship side pulled a goal back, Tom O’Connor made it 3-1 just before the break.

It got even better for Phil Parkinson's men when leading scorer Mullin struck in the 58th minute from the penalty spot after the Sky Blues were reduced to 10 men when Jonathan Panzo was shown a straight red card for deliberate handball.

However, the Sky Blues scored twice and then put the pressure on as they pressed for a late equaliser but Wrexham held on to secure victory to Mullin's delight.

"It was a good start but the game was never finished," said Mullin.

"Even at 4-1 we knew that. Coventry are a really good side and they have got a lot of talented players.

"It was always going to be difficult and with 10 men they had nothing to lose, they could just throw the shackles off and go for it.

"We didn't want it to get as close as it was but we managed to see it out.

"Thankfully we got over the line with a great defensive performance in the last 15 minutes and before that I thought we were brilliant all over.

"We came here with a job to do, to go and win the game; we didn't come here for a day out but thankfully we've managed to give the fans a great day."

Mullin was delighted to cause a shock and beat a team three divisions higher than Wrexham.

"You know me, I don't class anyone as better than anyone," he added.

"It is 11 players against 11 players and you go out and give your best performance.

"On the day, we were the better team."

Lee believes Wrexham, challenging for the National League title, showed just how good a team they are by beating the Championship outfit.

"I thought we thoroughly deserved the lead. We controlled the first 30 minutes of the game and we looked the Championship side," said the playmaker.

"That's what we wanted to do. We didn't want to come here for a day out, we wanted to show how good we are and how much better we are getting and I think we did that.

"Coventry are a really good team, a solid Championship team, but we showed what we are about."

Lee scored his fourth goal in seven outings with a superb curling effort from outside the area and he said: "I will take any goal if they go in.

"Luckily for me a few are going in at the minute but the most important thing is the result and to get through to the fourth round.

"As a National League club, it is a heck of an achievement."

Coventry made a game off it when they pulled it back to 4-3 and Lee added: "The lads dug in and showed the character we have got in the squad and we thoroughly deserved it.

"The fans backed us in their numbers and the atmosphere was so special; they were so loud and to send them home smiling and happy, it's what the lads wanted to do.

"It's a great day for the club."

Ben Tozer was disappointed Wrexham conceded two goals to give Coventry hope of getting a result but the centre-back was just pleased with the end result.

"We were 4-1 up and deserved it," said Tozer.

"They had some chances in the first half; they hit the post but it was never going in.

"It was a really good game and then when Coventry had 10 men, they played with no fear.

"All you can do is put your body in the way of the ball.

"They had a couple of chances to score at the end which is frustrating but let's just enjoy it.

"If you'd have given me 4-3 at the end of the game, I'd have snapped your hand off!

"The away following was absolutely immense."
