WREXHAM will visit Altrincham in the fourth round of the FA Trophy after beating Scunthorpe United 3-1 at The Racecourse.

The third round clash with the Iron had to be rescheduled after Saturday's tie was postponed because of a frozen pitch and Wrexham, who reached the final of the competition last season where they lost 1-0 to Bromley at Wembley, came from behind to win and extend the unbeaten run to 15 games in all competitions.

Phil Parkinson said he would ring the changes for the Trophy tie and give players who needed a run-out a game, and the Wrexham manager was true to his word.

Just two players who started the last competitive fixture, a 2-0 league win at Eastleigh on December 10, were included in the starting XI - Jordan Tunnicliffe, who was named captain for the night, and Tom O'Connor.

New signing Andy Cannon was handed his debut in the Reds' midfield and there were also places in the side for goalkeeper Rob Lainton and centre-back Harry Lennon who have both had lengthy spells on the sidelines.

Reece Hall-Johnson, Max Cleworth, Jacob Mendy, James Jones, Sam Dalby and Jake Bickerstaff made up the rest of the team.

Anthony Forde, Luke Young, Elliott Lee and Ollie Palmer, who started at Eastleigh, were named among the substitutes but Mark Howard, Aaron Hayden, Ben Tozer, Callum McFadzean and Paul Mullin weren't included in the squad.

Wrexham won a couple of corners in the opening exchanges but Scunthorpe took an eighth minute lead.

Lennon lost possession to Robert Apter who squared the ball to Caolan Lavery and the striker fired past Lainton.

The Reds quickly created their first chance when Mendy fed Bickerstaff who fired wide from the edge of the area.

More sights of goal arrived when Dalby headed wide from Hall-Johnson's cross and the striker then saw a low shot comfortably saved by keeper Owen Foster.

Wrexham came close to an equaliser when the lively Mendy cut in from the left and only just cleared the bar with a right foot effort from 20 yards.

But the Reds made it 1-1 after 33 minutes.

The ball was played to Bickerstaff who turned in the area and curled the ball past Foster with a great finish.

It was all Wrexham and Tunnicliffe headed wide from O'Connor's free-kick and it remained all-square at the break.

The Reds made the early running in the second half and Dalby fired over following a superb pass by O'Connor.

Lainton pulled off a good save to deny Tom Pugh but Wrexham went 2-1 up on 70 minutes.

Foster went to gather the ball but didn't get there and it ricocheted to Hall-Johnson who slotted into the back of the net.

Lennon made a vital block to deny Scunthorpe a late equaliser but Lee made it 3-1 in added time when he beat Foster with a low drive.

Wrexham, second in the National League, will resume the title challenge at home to Solihull Moors on Boxing Day.
