Max Cleworth has signed a new deal with Wrexham.

Academy graduate Cleworth, 20, has chalked up 50 first team appearances for Phil Parkinson's side and his displays were rewarded with a new, long-term contract last year.

That deal has now been extended until 2025 and the delighted defender told the club website: “I’m buzzing. It was something I was keen to get done and I’m really happy it has happened.

“The Club is going in a great direction and I’m really looking forward to just pushing on and hopefully being a part of the team that makes history for this Club.

“I’ve gained a lot of experience since signing my last contract extension, and I’m enjoying being around the first-team squad."

Cleworth played 36 times last season, scoring his one and only Reds goal in the 5-0 FA Trophy thrashing of Gloucester City 12 months ago.

He has made a further 14 appearances this season recently losing his regular starting role to summer signing Jordan Tunnicliffe.

And Cleworth thanked Tunnicliffe and Wrexham's other back-line members for their help and guidance.

“The lads around me – Ben Tozer, Aaron Hayden and now Jordan Tunnicliffe – have also helped me massively in terms of adding bits to my game; learning from bad moments but then enjoying the good ones too," added Cleworth.

“From the very start of my time at Wrexham it has been a big development, and since Phil Parkinson and Steve Parkin have come in, and David Jones, they’ve helped me massively."

Manager Phil Parkinson said: “We’re pleased Max has signed his contract extension.

“He’s a good young player with more than 50 appearances under his belt already and we’re looking forward to seeing him progress."
