ADRAN North's top trio are causing plenty of stirs this season.

Unbeaten Wrexham, Connah's Quay Nomads and Llandudno all stunned Adran Premier opponents last time out to make it through to the quarter-finals of the Adran Trophy.

Asked if a tier two team could go on to win the competition, Wrexham manager Steve Dale said: "There's no reason why it can't be done.

"All three teams have done well to get into that next round.

"I don't think any three of the teams will be going into it half-hearted.

"I think all three teams have had a year to develop and progress and impress.

"In cup football, anything can happen.

"With the results over the last weekend, the north is getting stronger and more competitive."

Wrexham currently lead Adran North on goal difference from Connah's Quay Nomads and the Reds will go three points clear if they defeat visitors Rhyl 1879 on Sunday.

However, Wrexham needed Lili Jones' stoppage time penalty to win 2-1 at Rhyl earlier in the season.

"We were very honest with each other after that game," added Dale.

"We know it wasn't our best performance.

"It's a sign of good character.

"Over the last couple of weeks, we have stepped up in terms of performances."

That culminated in the 7-1 thrashing of top flight Abergavenny in the Adran Trophy last time out.

Rosie Hughes scored six of the goals and created the other in an astonishing display.

"Rightly she will get the headlines," said Hughes.

"There were a lot of positive performances and it was a massive team effort."

A first league triumph of the campaign is Airbus UK Broughton's target on Sunday as they go to Llanfair United.

Llandudno will climb into second spot if they can win at Y Felinheli.
