HEUNG-MIN SON heads into World Cup action with a good luck message from Wrexham players who copied the South Korean captain's goal celebration in Saturday's 2-0 win against Aldershot.

Elliot Lee was told by former Luton team-mate Tom Lockyer - in the Wales squad for the finals in Qatar - that Tottenham Hotspur striker Son has become a "massive" Reds' supporter after watching the Welcome to Wrexham documentary.

A group of Wrexham players sent Son a video wishing him well in the tournament and copied his goal celebration after Paul Mullin opened the scoring in Saturday's victory over the Shots which sent Phil Parkinson's side back to the top of the National League.

"Tom Lockyer is a good friend of mine who I was at Luton with," explained Lee.

"He text me in the week, he was with (Tottenham defender) Ben Davies who said that because of the documentary, Sonny is a massive Wrexham fan now and he asked if we could send him a message.

"A few of us sent Sonny a video wishing him good luck for the World Cup and we said that we would do his celebration if one of us scored against Aldershot.

"Mulls scored and we actually got it in so hopefully Sonny is happy with that!

"Tom text me saying he loved the video so I am sure he will love the celebration as well."

Interest in Wrexham has rocketed all over the world since Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney completed their takeover of the club in February 2021.

Lee, who arrived at The Racecourse from Luton in the summer, is enjoying being part of the journey.

"Because of the owners and the documentary, the status of the club has gone through the roof," said Lee.

"I try to tell people who haven't been up here that when you get up here, you realise how special the town is and how passionate the fans are.

"It is just great to be up here.

"It is hard to describe to people who haven't been up here the feeling around the place, the enthusiasm and the support that the lads get.

"I tell people back home that it is crazy the support that we get."

Lee added: "With the status of the club, people from outside want us to fail.

"But there is a real togetherness inside the changing room and there is a real togetherness from top to bottom at the club.

"I've been at clubs before when it's like that and you can really achieve special things."
