JAMES JONES believes Oldham Athletic will be gunning for revenge on Sunday but the midfielder is looking to inflict more misery on David Unsworth’s side.

Phil Parkinson’s men came from behind to triumph 2-1 at Oldham thanks to late goals from Ben Tozer and Paul Mullin when the teams met in the National League last month.

The rivals go head-to-head in the first round of the FA Cup on Sunday at The Racecourse and Jones wants another win to progress in the competition.

“It will be a tough game,” said Jones.

“It was a good battle at their place so I’m sure they will be keen to get one over on us this time.

“We have just got to do our job and focus on the job in hand, and hopefully get a good win.”

Promotion is the priority but Jones still hopes to take another step closer to a possible dream tie against a Premier League club.

“The FA Cup is something to really look forward to,” said Jones.

“The magic of the cup, who knows where you might end up and who you might end up getting.

“There is always that carrot of getting a big team further down the line.

“I don’t think it is a distraction and as a player, you want to play as many games as possible so whether that is league or FA Cup, the more we play the better.

“But we don’t want to run before we walk, we have got to take each game as it comes and not get too carried away, so it is important that we take it seriously and apply ourselves properly, and we give a good showing of ourselves.”

Sunday’s tie is being televised live on ITV and Jones hopes Wrexham give a good account of themselves.

“Being on TV is always a good thing,” he added.

“Not just for our home fans now, we want to put a show on for a wider audience as well.”
