PHIL PARKINSON knows Jordan Davies isn't happy missing out on a starting place but the Reds’ boss hailed the midfielder’s contribution when he came on.

Davies, for the second successive game, was named among the substitutes against Halifax Town at The Racecourse on Tuesday night.

Wrexham trailed 1-0 at the break and Parkinson made a change on the hour mark, with Davies replacing centre-back Jordan Tunnicliffe as the Reds switched to a back four.

The change worked as Ben Tozer soon equalised, Davies put Wrexham ahead with seven minutes to go and Aaron Hayden struck late on to secure a 3-1 win.

Davies impressed when he came on, earning praise from his manager.

Parkinson said: “We have done it many times home and away. We have got to have options to change things around and I thought Jordan did really well when he came on.

“He was disappointed. I decided to go with the same XI and that was tough on Jordan because he has done well, he has got his goals and assists.

“But what a response and I am pleased for him because he is a great lad.”

Hayden scored his seventh goal in 15 league games when he headed home Luke Young’s corner.

“Aaron is phenomenal the leap he has got,” said Parkinson.

“He is unmarkable and if the delivery is right, invariably you have got a great chance with Aaron.”

It was a game of two halves with Wrexham producing a much improved performance in the second period.

Parkinson always felt his side could turn things around and clinch victory which keeps second placed Wrexham three points behind Notts County.

“We have got a lot of experience out on the pitch and a lot of people who could wear that armband,” added the Reds’ boss.

“I thought they showed that because when you are having an indifferent spell, you have got to dig yourself out of it individually and collectively, and I thought we did that.

“I felt we would get back in it but we had to up our game and that is the key.

“It doesn’t just happen, we have got to adapt and adjust certain things which we did at half-time, and we were great in the second period.”
