PHIL PARKINSON hailed his deadly strikeforce after making it 50 not out in Wrexham’s brilliant 6-0 win over Torquay United at The Racecourse.

Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer both found the back of the net in the victory and have now scored half-a-century of goals between them since the latter joined the Reds from AFC Wimbledon for a club record transfer fee in January.

Mullin bagged 19 goals following the arrival of Palmer, who struck 16 times as Wrexham reached the FA Trophy final and finished runners-up to National League champions Stockport County.

The duo have picked up where they left off in 2022-23 with leading marksman Mullin scoring eight goals and Palmer firing in seven, earning praise from their manager.

“That’s not a bad return,” said Parkinson. “Their record is great and it is so pleasing to see.

“They are good players but good lads as well and that’s the key; they are just good characters.

“They get on well off the pitch, there is a good bit of competition between them.

“Everyone wants to be the top scorer but they are not selfish with that.

“There is a genuine competition and both of them did great again.

“Goals as so important so we are pleased with what they have done so far but we are looking for them to build on that.”

Mullin, who scored 13 goals in 2021-22 before the arrival of Palmer, was named club and National League player of the season and was the division's golden boot winner.

He made it 2-0 against Torquay before setting up Palmer for Wrexham’s third goal.

Palmer has made a huge difference since his arrival and Parkinson feels the frontman has got even better this season.

“Mulls got a goalscorer’s goal again in the six-yard box,” said the Reds’ boss.

“But not only that, he made a great goal for Ollie as well.

“I think everyone can see that Ollie has gone up a level this season in his fitness.

“The way he came back pre-season and the way he trains, and that has reflected in his all-round game.

“He is getting the rewards for that.”
