PHIL PARKINSON could not praise his players enough following their midweek heroics but he won't allow complacency to set in at Southend United tomorrow.

Wrexham beat Dagenham and Redbridge 4-1 on Tuesday to register a fifth successive win and stay second in the National League.

The Reds produced arguably their best performance of the season, with strike duo Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer scoring a brace apiece, and had Parkinson purring at the football his side played.

It was as convincing as the scoreline suggests but Parkinson knows his side need to be at the races once more when they head to Essex.

"Obviously very pleased, we won't get carried away but it's important that we give the lads credit where it's due and we were good," said Parkinson.

"We are praising the lads for Tuesday and rightly so but it will be feet firmly back on the ground because we have got to be relentless in where we want to get to and we will carry that on at the weekend.

"Of course there is confidence in the group and we have got to keep that there.

"Not over-confidence, just confidence.

"We have got good quality in the team and on the bench, and we will keep that with us at the weekend."

Wrexham have enjoyed a superb start to the season, taking 19 points from the opening eight games.

The Reds are one point behind leaders Chesterfield who came from behind to beat Southend 3-2 on Tuesday but centre-back Ben Tozer is not getting carried away ahead of another tough test.

"People start getting excited but I don't think anyone has won the league in September," added Tozer.

"All we have got to do is focus on the next game.

"Southend lost and you have got to worry about a reaction from a defeat when you play against any team.

"It is a tough place to go to, we have got to go and equip ourselves the way we have all season, and hopefully come back with a positive result.
