HAT-TRICK hero Paul Mullin says keeping a clean sheet was just as important as Wrexham hitting the goal tail against Maidstone United.

Phil Parkinson's side bounced back from a first National League defeat of the season at Chesterfield by thrashing the Stones 5-0 at The Racecourse.

Mullin, who stuck 32 times in all competitions in 2021-22 following his move from Cambridge United, bagged his first treble for the Reds to make it four goals in the opening four matches.

Wrexham, who dominated throughout and could have won by more after creating a host of chances, kept their first shut-out and Mullin is looking to build on the victory when the Reds, up to fifth in the table, head to Woking on Saturday before hosting Gateshead next Tuesday in their Bank Holiday double-header.

"A lot of football is always talked about how many goals you score but to keep a clean sheet is really pleasing, especially after Tuesday night," said Mullin.

"We went back to being solid and didn't look like conceding so that is very pleasing.

"It was convincing.

"We wanted to start the game on the front foot and finish on the front foot.

"I thought we were brilliant all the way through.

"We have got to try and build on that now and take it into next week, and hopefully win that game too.

"All games in this league are tough but we have got to go into the next two games full of confidence and go and win them."
