ELLIOT LEE is looking forward to making up for lost time during Wrexham's pre-season training camp in Spain.

Reds' boss Phil Parkinson, his players and staff will continue the build-up to the new National League campaign in the Alicante region, with friendly matches due to take place on Tuesday and Saturday.

The Reds reported back for pre-season training a fortnight ago, with Lee taking part in his first session a week later after joining Wrexham on a three-year deal following his release by Luton Town who he helped clinch back-to-back promotions to the Championship.

Lee spent the 2021/22 campaign on loan with Charlton Athletic, playing his last game on April 30 - a full four weeks before the Reds' season and promotion challenge came to an end following a heartbreaking 5-4 defeat to Grimsby in the play-off semi-final.

The 27-year-old attacker had longer time off during the summer than the other players and feels heading to a training camp will not only raise his fitness but also help him bond with his new team-mates.

"I am building up my fitness levels," said Lee, who featured in Saturday's friendly at Nantwich.

"I was training by myself but there is nothing like getting in and around the lads.

"It is a different kind of fitness, you get your sharpness back and there was the game at the weekend.

"Going to Spain is a really good chance for all the lads to bond well, especially me being new.

"You are with each other day in, day out, you have spare time together and it is something I have done in pre-season before.

"Being there 24-7 with the lads and the staff, it is a good chance for me to really get my fitness up.

"I am a week behind the lads having come here a week later so it is a good chance for me to get up to speed with the lads, and I am looking forward to coming back fit and strong."

Bryce Hosannah, brought in on transfer deadline day from Leeds United in August 2021, is also experiencing his first pre-season with Wrexham and sees the benefits of a training camp.

"I have been on a few and it is always nice going abroad," said Hosannah, who made 23 league appearances last term.

"Different surroundings and it helps you learn the team better in a different environment.

"Everyone is looking forward to it, it should be good."

Striker Jake Bickerstaff, who has signed a two-year contract extension, can't wait to get started in Spain as Wrexham continue preparing for a 15th season in non-league which starts with a home match against Eastleigh on Saturday August 6.

"There will be a lot of running and we have got a couple of fixtures," he added.

"I am really excited, it will be good for team bonding and everyone getting to know each other ready for the start of the season."
