PHIL PARKINSON insists Wrexham won’t pay over the odds when it comes to securing new signings and the club will continue to be run with a “structure” in place.

Although pleased with the squad at his disposal, the Reds’ boss is still looking to make additions after Wrexham finished runners-up in the National League last season before losing to Grimsby Town in the play-off semi-final.

Centre-back Jordan Tunnicliffe and goalkeeper Mark Howard have already arrived at The Racecourse ahead of a 15th campaign in non-league when Wrexham will be expected to launch another promotion challenge.

But although Parkinson has been able to bring in big names like Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer following the takeover of the club by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, he says there is a structure in place when it comes to transfer fees and wages.

“We are looking to improve in certain areas,” said Parkinson.

“We have valuations on players and there are a couple of clubs we have offered fees to and a couple of players we have offered contracts to.

“But at times you have got to stick your guns as well.

“We have got offers on the table for two or three players but (advisor) Shaun Harvey has got to run the club with a structure in regards to transfer fees or wages.

“We are trying to stick to that whilst endeavouring to get the quality that we feel can improve us.”

Parkinson hopes the addition of quality signings will enable Wrexham to go one step further next season and finally clinch a return to the Football League.

But although he still wants fresh faces, the Reds’ boss stressed the importance of keeping hold of all his key players, with deadly strike duo Mullin and Palmer, midfielder Jordan Davies and centre-back Aaron Hayden all impressing last term.

And Parkinson says players are committed to the cause and eager to realise the promotion dream.

“The squad is good as it stands, and we have got four or five youngsters in the group in pre-season as well,” said Parkinson.

“We are in no mad rush to add numbers for the sake of it - that is the key message.

“What is great for us is we have retained all our key players from last year which is really important for Wrexham fans when we didn’t get over the line at the end of last season.

“You think ‘will we lose some key players?’ because there is inevitably going to be interest but every one of them has come back with a real determination to go one better this season, and the squad is not far off where it needs to be.”
