TYLER FRENCH has joined Scottish Championship side Dundee for an undisclosed fee, with Phil Parkinson admitting the defender might have struggled for regular football at The Racecourse next term.

The 23-year-old defender signed for Wrexham from Bradford City during the 2021 January transfer window and put pen to paper on a new one year deal at the end of that season.

A versatile defender who appeared at both right wing-back and centre-half for Wrexham, the club took up the option in February to extend French's contract until the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

French went onto make 25 appearances for the Reds in all competitions in 2021-22 and he regained his place in the side during the run-in after Aaron Hayden picked up a hamstring injury.

But Parkinson has added to his defensive options by making Jordan Tunnicliffe his first new signing of the summer, with the 28-year-old making the switch to north Wales after his contract came to an end at Crawley Town.

And the Reds' boss admits having another centre-back available for the 2022-23 season, when Wrexham will aim to challenge for automatic promotion from the National League, meant it was in French's best interests to move on for more game-time.

"With bringing Jordan in, we were already in talks about Tyler going and there were a couple of opportunities for Tyler to move on," said Parkinson.

"I felt he needed to go somewhere where he was going to get regular first-team football.

"We couldn't guarantee him that here but we thank Tyler for his contribution."
