WREXHAM athletes have been competing near and far over the past week.

Thomas Walley has demonstrated why he’s one of the top pole vaulters in Britain.

The Wrexham AAC member competed at the UK Championships in Manchester and he finished fifth in the discipline after clearing 5.05 metres.

Liam McGivern achieved a season’s best 11.25 seconds for sixth place in the 100-metres at the Loughborough Open, while he was fourth in the 200-metres (22.55).

Meanwhile, Ryan Davis wore the North Wales colours at the Stone St Michael’s 10k, where a time of 32.36 saw him fourth and Oliver Edwards was able to clock 53.05 for third position in the 400-metres at the Trafford Grand Prix in Stretford.

Two Wrexham AAC members were part of the North Wales team competing in the upper Youth Development League meet at Stretford.

In the under-17 women’s class, Isobel Gunn claimed first position in both the 80-metre hurdles (12.88) and triple jump (10.14m), while she was part of the quartet that finished third in the 4x100m relay (56.40).

There was success too for Connor Tweed in the under-17 men’s section.

He won the discus with an effort of 24.43m, was second in the javelin (48.10m) and third in the shot putt (10.96m).

A trio of club members took to the start line at the Hotfoot Up Famau hill race.

The first M40 and second overall was Joel Gomes, who stopped the watch on 37.21.

Neil Bull finished 50th in 60.44 and Karen Owens was 61st with her time of 71.44.

Over at the Tilston 10k, Alex Edwards clocked 64.07 for 97th position.

Plenty of Wrexham AAC members have enjoyed parkruns.

At Wepre, Mike Robbins achieved 11th spot in 22.38, while 14th position was claimed by Chris Evans at Pwllheli (29.16).

Four Wrexham racers were in the top-20 at Erddig.

Leading the way was Andy Jones, who clocked 19.50 to finish as the runner-up.

He was followed by Ella Davis (sixth in 21.38), Alan Williams (11th in 22.33) and Callum McGrath (17th in 23.17).

A personal best of 25.49 saw Angelo Edwards 37th, with Ian Grimshaw 38th in 25.49, Karl Moore 53rd in 27.00 and Sarah Grimshaw 59th in 27.52.

Completing the Wrexham contingent at the event were Charles Ashley (70th in 28.54), Phil Walker (74th in 29.02), Lucy Morris (144th in 37.19) and Alex Edwards (161st in 45.42).

Annabelle Jones (9.01) was third at the Alyn Waters junior parkrun, with Ellis Jones producing a personal best of 10.35 for 13th.

A busy weekend is in the offing with no fewer than five events.

On Saturday, it’s the Moel Siabod fell race at Capel Curig and the Welsh Schools Track and Field Championships in Cardiff.

Turning to Sunday and competitors will be at the U13/U15 Youth Development League meet in Blackburn, the Chester Zoo 10k and the FFC trail race at Alwen reservoir, which is also the North Wales championships.
