ROB LAINTON won't play any further part in Wrexham's promotion challenge.

The Wrexham number one was forced off with a wrist injury during the second half of Saturday's goalless draw at Bromley and will today have an operation after suffering a fracture and dislocation.

Reds' boss Phil Parkinson confirmed that Lainton has been ruled out for the season after seeing his side beat Halifax Town 3-1 to remain in contention for the National League title.

"Rob is going to be out for the season," said Parkinson. "It is a bad injury and we wish him all the best.

"He has got the operation and we just hope that is successful.

"I know he will have been sat at home cheering the boys on; he is a great lad - not just a good goalkeeper, he is a great character - and we will get him back in and around the lads as soon as we can."

Christian Dibble replaced Lainton against the Shaymen and Parkinson insists the back-up keeper is an excellent replacement.

"Rob is a good goalkeeper, we can't hide away from that," added Parkinson. "It is a loss but equally, we have got a very good goalkeeper in Christian Dibble.

"The both of them are good mates but there is a healthy competition between them on the training ground.

"Dibs' got his opportunity and he has more than taken it."
