PHIL PARKINSON admits his side could have been more ruthless against King's Lynn but the Reds' boss declared himself pleased with a good night's work as the winning run continued.

Wrexham beat the lowly Linnets 2-0 at The Racecourse with Jordan Davies and Paul Mullin - the two top scorers - on target in the first half.

More chances went begging after the interval but the Reds had done enough to clinch a fifth successive win in all competitions and move up to third in the National League, six points behind leaders Stockport County.

Victory could have been by a bigger margin but Parkinson was just pleased with three points to keep the good run going.

"It was job done," said Parkinson.

"First half was good, more or less how we thought the game would be in terms of them sitting off the ball, us being patient and waiting for moments, and they came with two very good goals.

"Second half we had three or four really good chances to get the third and when you don't, it just gives King's Lynn a little bit of a lift.

"We could have been a bit more ruthless with the way we took those chances but when you don't take them, it is important that you come off the pitch with a victory and we did that.

"It was a good night's work for us; it can always be better, we know that and there are certain areas we can improve on.

"But after the convincing win at the weekend, we knew King's Lynn after their defeat would come and make it hard for us to play through them but we found a way and when the moments of quality came, we had two great players in position to finish the chances.

"I am pleased with the result."

January transfer window signing Tom O'Connor missed a second game in a row because of a hamstring injury so James Jones retained his place in the Reds' midfield.

Jones, back in the side for Saturday's 4-1 home win over Aldershot, set-up Mullin for the striker's 16th goal of the season with a superb through-ball and Parkinson feels the 26-year-old, brought in from Lincoln City last August, showed just what he is capable of as he was named man of the match.

"I am pleased with Jonah's contribution," said Parkinson.

"The last couple of games he has been involved a lot more in the build-up in the game and that is what we have been speaking to him about.

"He has got so much energy, sometimes he makes runs a bit too soon.

"The last couple of games he has been involved more, gets more confidence and continuity in his game, and then makes a run at the right time.

"He did that on Saturday when he put that cross in for Jordan and I thought the timing of his runs and his all-round game was excellent on Tuesday."
