PHIL PARKINSON hailed a "very professional performance" as Wrexham beat Boreham Wood 3-0 at The Racecourse to reach the quarter-finals of the FA Trophy.

The Reds, looking to bounce back from the disappointing 1-0 league defeat at Torquay the previous weekend, took a 19th minute lead through club record signing Ollie Palmer's second goal since his January arrival.

Returning midfielder Jordan Davies then bagged his 11th goal of the campaign as Wrexham made it 2-0 before the break, and Aaron Hayden's injury time strike secured a comfortable fifth round win in front of 3,444 supporters - the biggest home crowd the Reds have ever had for an FA Trophy game.

"I thought it was a very professional performance sprinkled with quality in there in terms with the goals," said Parkinson.

"I was very pleased, we had to deal with the way Boreham Wood play; they are a good team, they are strong, they are physical and I thought that we dealt with that well in difficult conditions.

"We showed some real patches of quality and when we did, we looked like we could create chances and get goals which we ultimately did."

Wrexham, free-scoring on their travels, have found goals harder to come by at home this season.

After going 1-0 up, Davies took a pass from left-back Callum McFadzean, who was making his debut, and rifled the ball home with a powerful shot from the edge of the area.

Parkinson stressed the importance of his side getting a second goal to give them breathing space.

"It is important getting that second goal which we have spoke about," said Parkinson.

"It has not been for the want of trying in our home games, and we have had lots of chances.

"But to get that just gives everybody a lift, and what a great goal that was from Jordan.

"A great pass from Callum and it was a fantastic goal from an attacking midfield player driving through the ball.

"Second half I just thought we were strong, we were solid, and deservedly got the third goal in the end."

McFadzean, who joined from Crewe Alex last month, has been recovering from a toe injury but he impressed on debut.

The defender weighed in with two assists, having delivered the cross for Palmer before teeing up Davies, and Parkinson was delighted with his display.

"I was pleased with Callum," said Parkinson.

"I said when he came in he'd had a spell out injured at Crewe so we've got to nurse him along a bit so it was always 60-65 minutes for him.

"But what you saw is what he is all about.

"He is very good with that final pass and that is ultimately what can decide football games.

"It was a terrific cross and I am so pleased for Ollie on the back stick doing what he is good at, getting his second goal for the club."
