WREXHAM were unable to mark a special occasion with victory as Torquay United scored a late equaliser to clinch a 1-1 draw.

Hollywood stars Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds. who completed their takeover at the north Wales club in February, were present for their first game at The Racecourse.

The duo had seen the Reds lose 3-2 against Maidenhead United at York Road on Tuesday and Phil Parkinson's side took an early lead versus Torquay through Harry Lennon.

But Wrexham never really looked like increasing their advantage and they paid the price as the Gulls levelled with six minutes remaining.

Parkinson made four changes from the side that lost at Maidenhead in midweek.

Rob Lainton, Lennon, James Jones and Jordan Ponticelli came into the side in place of Christian Dibble, Shaun Brisley, Paul Mullin and Dior Angus.

It was a blow to lose top scorer Mullin who started a three-game suspension.

The authorities decided that there had been a case of mistaken identity and Bryce Hosannah would not serve any punishment for the red card he was shown during the game against Maidenhead, with the punishment being transferred to Mullin.

Jordan Davies played in the number 10 role vacated by Mullin.

Connor Lemonheigh-Evans had an early chance for Torquay but Wrexham took the lead in the fourth minute.

Ben Tozer's long throw fell for Harry Lennon who fired past goalkeeper Stuart McDonald.

Wrexham came close to a second goal when Jones' shot from just outside the area almost deflected into the path of Liam McAlinden in the six yard box, with the Reds having to settle for a corner.

Ponticelli also headed narrowly wide from Tozer's free-kick while Davies' effort was blocked by a defender following a good move and the midfielder also headed into the arms of MacDonald as Wrexham kept the pressure on.

Davies was just off target with a free-kick but Wrexham, having been the better team, were good value for their half-time lead.

Klaidi Lolos headed wide for Torquay at the start of the season half while Wrexham had a good shout for penalty after Bryce Hosannah beat two men and appeared to have been tripped in the area by Chiori Johnson but it wasn't given.

Wrexham needed a second goal but Torquay bagged an 84th minute equaliser.

Johnson sent in a a cross from the right and Lemonheigh-Evans scored with a close range header.

Neither side could find a winner and it finished all-square.
